Peloton Bike Sales Went Through the Roof
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live our lives in many ways. One of the most noticeable changes is how people are exercising. With gyms and fitness studios closed due to social distancing measures, more and more people turned to home workouts as an alternative. And one product that saw a massive surge in sales during this time is Peloton bikes.
Peloton was founded in 2012 by John Foley, a former executive at Barnes & Noble, and launched its first bike in 2014. The bike had a tablet attached to it which allowed users to access live classes taught by professional instructors streamed directly into your home. Users could also take pre-recorded classes with an instructor as well as compete against other riders in leaderboards. In 2018 they released their Tread treadmill, expanding their range of products even further.
Since its launch, Peloton's popularity had steadily grown over time even before the global pandemic struck, but 2020 saw an exponential increase in sales for them due to the closure of gyms around the world and health authorities advising against going outside for exercise when possible. In April 2020 alone, sales surged 300% compared to April 2019 as people sought out ways to stay active while being confined indoors for long periods of time.
This increase in demand has seen Peloton become one of the most valuable private companies in America with a valuation of more than $8 billion USD and its stock price soaring from $20 USD per share when it went public in September 2019 to nearly $171 USD per share by June 2021. This spike can be attributed largely to their latest product releases.
Peloton was one of the most successful businesses during this unique period where staying healthy was paramount to everyone’s mind while still having fun exercising without leaving your own house. Peloton offered something unique that no other competitor could provide: interactive classes combining music, gaming elements and instruction delivered directly into your living room – perfect for anyone wanting to stay fit during lockdown.
